The IANA port allocated for ManageSieve is 4190/tcp, and the old port used by timsieved and other managesieve software in many distros (2000/tcp) is allocated for Cisco SCCP usage, according to the IANA registry.

Starting with the version 4.38 of the Debian “netbase” package, the “sieve” service will be moved from port 2000 to port 4190 in the /etc/services file. This affects to those using Debian Squeeze, and Debian Sid. Debian Etch and Debian Lenny users are NOT affected.

• GCC 4.4 is now the default version of GCC. (see changelog).
• KDE 4.3.4 has been uploaded to unstable.
• The version 2.0 of the GNUstep live CD has been released. It is created using live-helper. Information and download at http://livecd.gnustep.org/
• There is a small update in the “3.0 (quilt)” source format.

• Due to some problems in the testing migration scripts, the testing suite is currently broken. This means some packages are currently not installable (such as KDE) or others are gone (such as MySQL). This is reported as the bug #559346. The issue is being worked on but it will take some time. If you see you problems when installing packages from testing, please be patient, or fetch the package from unstable.
• Some X.Org drivers (packages xserver-xorg-input-* and xserver-xorg-video-*) that were meant to be uploaded to experimental landed in unstable instead (see sbuild’s bug #559659). If you see packages with a Depends: on xorg stuff from experimental, do not update and wait until xorg-server 1.7 moves to unstable.
• Backports of KDE 4.1 made for Lenny were available at http://kde4.debian.net. That repository was planned to go out of service in the end of this year, due to technical problems they are already gone.
• Volunteers for a Debian booth at the 26c3 (Chaos Communication Congress) in Berlin wanted. If you want to help, there is more info at http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEventsDe/2009/26C3
• There will be a BSP in Mönchengladbach (Germany) the weekend 22-24 January, 2010. More info in this wikipage.

  • KOffice 2.1 in experimental.
  • munin 1.4.0 beta 1 in experimental.
  • inkscape 0.47 is out. You can find the 4th prerelease (0.47pre4) in unstable.
• Sandro Tosi blogged about the latest release of reportbug 4.9.
• The FD and DAM teams have met this weekend (summary mail in d-d-a). From now on, the NM advocate emails will be public.
• Help is wanted with the Debian GPG keysigning coordination pages. Contact the NM FrontDesk if you are interested.
• The BSP season has started. This weekend some people gathered in Cambridge and Munich to fix bugs (and drink beer). Anyway, you can have your own BSP every week, congratulations to zack for 12 weeks of RCBW! (RCBW stands for Release critical bugs of the week).

• TeX Live 2009 has been uploaded to experimental due the high amount of internal changes. See texlive-base 2009-1 changelog for more information.
• The new release of mercurial 1.4 is in unstable. (changelog)
• Also, for those packaging with mercurial, Jens Peter Secher has made a rewrite of hg-buildpackage (orphaned for some time now) named mercurial-buildpackage. More information about mercurial-buildpackage’s features in this email.
• lenny-and-a-half was not planned due the initial freeze plans in December. Now that the freeze has been set in March, there is some discussion about reviving it, help is needed!
• Raphaël Hertzog announced that now the new source package formats has been available for some weeks, it is time to think about making it the default format. There is a release goal about this and about 100 bugs need to be fixed.

• Marco d’Itri informed that due to changes in udev 147, squeeze will not support kernels earlier than 2.6.27.

• Iceape is not dead!. Mike Hommey has uploaded the version 2.0 to unstable. (huge changelog). Mike also blogged about packages that are only compatible with Iceape 1.x and will stop working.

• Daniel Burrows has uploaded aptitude 6.0.0 to unstable. This version of aptitude has been developed for more than a year as version 5.x.x in experimental. Check the changelog since the version 5.0.1 to know more about all the changes and improvements.
• Linux kernel 2.6.31 is now in unstable and related packages have been updated as well. If you also have installed linux-modules-extra-2.6, it is being removed.
• The ftp team is meeting this week in Essen, Germany. See agenda.

• A prerelease of exim 4.70 has been uploaded to experimental (changelog). Andreas Metzler has made a call for testing.
• Unstable switched to (e)glibc 2.10.1 (looong changelog)
• schroot version 1.3.0 has been released and uploaded to experimental (changelog). Roger Leigh mailed about the changes and asked for testing.
• The first release candidate of R 2.10.0 is in unstable (changelog). There is significant user changes in this version (read more).

The first beta of Qt 4.6 has been uploaded to experimental (see changelog). It is reported to work without problems with KDE 4.3.2 and Qt4 applications in the Debian archive.
